We had all of our flights cancel less than a month before we were supposed to leave for Ireland. New flights cost us more than twice the original price, airline isn't expected to pay out for months and we cleared most of our savings we had for the trip to buy the new flights. Southern Cross were absolutely amazing. Quick responses to calls and emails, genuinely helpful, nice people and they even pushed our claim through so we have the money back before we leave. We could not be more grateful and I won't be using any other insurance companies going forward, their fantastic service has made an incredibly stressful time much easier for us.

SCTI (NZ) has been working for our international students for many years. The whole team are very professional and super nice to serve us schools and students. All the related processes are easy to go and we are happy with the outcomes. No.1 insurance company! Highly recommend to all.

Claim was denied with process taking months. Would take at least an hour everytime to get through to their customer service department, with service being rude and passive aggressive. Never again!

Thank you to Southern Cross travel insurance for making allowances due to COVID19 and cancelling and fully refunding policies that were no longer needed.

Cancelled a travel insurance due Covid19 and they charge $35 fee. Airlines, hotels, rental cars, railways have given 100% refund. Sure won’t be using them again. Very mean spirited.

I broke a tooth while on a trip covered by Southern Cross Travel Insurance (SCTI). Due to my travel schedule I was unable to have a crown fitted and installed during my trip and my dentist in Auckland did this immediately on my return. Unfortunately, my claim was denied due to the SCTI provision that “We will not pay for any claims… associated with: b) medical or dental treatment incurred in New Zealand.” I appealed this decision saying that the event that made the treatment necessary happened while I was in SCTI coverage and my decision to defer treatment until I returned home was necessary and justified under the circumstances. I was very pleased when a Disputes Resolution Officer acknowledged the original decision was the correct one, but she made an exception for me and the claim has been paid out. I give the SCTI claims process 10 out of 10 for fairness and compassion.

Had a car accident while overseas. Southern Cross was amazingly easy to deal with upon our return. Paid out as per policy as soon as we had submitted our necessary documents. Will definitely use again.

This was such a seamless, efficient process along with great communication. We always find SCTI great value for money.

My daughter spent $133 on travel insurance for her Contiki round Europe. On day 19/25 she ended up in intensive care in Salzburg, Austria with meningococcal meningitis. SCTI were fantastic. Her medical costs accepted within minutes. My travel costs over there up to a particular value also accepted within minutes. I can’t praise them highly enough and am so grateful for their speed in accepting the claim.

Used SCTI for a trip to south america, where I got sick. Luckily the sum of expenses was pretty small (100 nzd) but it took one month for them to process and refund me the money. The whole process is a hassle, I had to sign papers, and mail them out. Nothing is done to make it easy for you. Luckily, i did this when I was back in NZ as it was nearing the end of my trip. But seriously, although SCTI was cheaper than Travel Insurance Direct, I will not use them again. Took way too long and too complicated with scanning, printing, mailing. Ridiculous. In the past I used TID, and everything was done electronically and refund was processed super quickly.

After many years of taking travel insurance with SCTI and no claims we have recently had to claim twice due to getting stranded by a snow storm and at Christmas having to change flights due to family medical emergency. SCTI were very fair and fast honouring our claims. Thanks SCTI!
