Dependants travel insurance age limits

Going on a family holiday with the kids in tow? Did you know that your dependents are covered for free under your policy? Yippee! That means you pay no extra, no matter how far, or how long you’re going on your well-deserved break.

Each insurer in New Zealand varies their definition of a “dependant” but luckily for you we’ve gone ahead and researched all the differences for you.

1Cover Under 21   Your children or grandchildren not in full time employment who are under the age of 21 and are travelling with you on the journey, and are named on the certificate of insurance.
Amex Under 21 Your children or grandchildren not in full time employment travelling with you for the entire journey and who are listed on the COI.
Cigna Under 20 Children less than 16 years of age (or up to and including 20 if in full time education and financially dependent on You) belonging to You, Your Spouse or partner (including legally adopted or fostered children). They must also be accompanied by an insured adult.
Columbus Direct Under 19 Your child or grandchild aged 0 to 18 who are named on the policy.
Countdown Under 21 Children up to and including 20 years. Children between 16-20 must be in full time education and financially dependant on you.
Cover more Under 21 Your children or grandchildren plus one non-related child per adult policyholder who are identified on the Certificate of Insurance and travelling with You on the Journey, provided they are not in full-time employment and they are under the age of 21 years.
DU Insure Under 21 Your children or grandchildren not in full time employment who are under the age of 21 and travelling with you on the Journey.
New Zealand Post Under 18 Your dependent children under the age of 18 who permanently live with you, provided they have New Zealand residency.
NZ Travel Insurance Under 21 Your children or grandchildren under the age of 21 travelling with you on your journey.
SCTI Under 18 Your unmarried children, stepchildren, foster children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who are aged 17 years or under on Your Start Date of Insurance and are primarily dependent on the adult(s) named on the Certificate of Insurance.
State Under 21 Your children or grandchildren not in full-time employment who are under the age of 21 at the date of policy issue, travelling with you on the trip and listed on your Certificate of Insurance.
Travel Insurance Direct Under 21 Your children or grandchildren not in full-time employment who are under the age of 21 at the date of policy issue, travelling with you on the trip and listed on your Certificate of Insurance.
TINZ Under 21 Your children or grandchildren not in full time employment who are under the age of 21 and travelling with you on the journey and are name on the COI.
Webjet Under 21 Your children or grandchildren not in full time employment who are under the age of 21 and travelling with you on the Journey.
World Nomads   Under 21   Your children or grandchildren who are not in full time employment and are travelling with you for the majority of the trip.
